A $40 million drainage improvement and road rehabilitation programme is now underway in the parish of Trelawny. This programme is aimed at mitigating flooding in the selected areas and also repairing roadways which have been damaged by recent torrential rainfall.

Community Relations Officer of the NWA’s Western, Janel Ricketts, says the programme which commenced in June, is now far advanced. She says that eight critical road sections have been targeted. These include the Wakefield, Bounty Hall, Salt Marsh and Troy roadways.

Ms Ricketts says that five of these projects are now substantially completed. These are the Granville, Bounty Hall, Salt Marsh, Wakefield and Albert Town roadways. Work will commence in short order on the Jackson Town, Wilson Valley and Dry River roadways.

The projects involve drain cleaning, the construction of ‘U’ and ‘V’ drains; the installation of culverts; and the reshaping and the asphalting of roadways using Asphaltic Concrete Overlay.

The projects are being executed through the Agency’s $1.35 Billion Local Rehabilitation and Drainage Improvement Programme.
