As the National Works Agency (NWA) continues to execute works under its drainage improvement programme across the Corporate Area, it is informing the motoring public that works planned for a section of Spanish Town Road later this week will result in lane restrictions in the vicinity of the Denham Town Police Station.
Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, explains that the section of Spanish Town Road between Industrial Terrace and North Street will be reduced to single lane traffic starting Thursday, March 1 at 10 a.m. to facilitate the installation of a metal grating over a drain which crosses the roadway in the area.
He says the restrictions will be in effect for three weeks and will allow sufficient time for the concrete works, which is a major component of the project, to be properly cured.
The restrictions will impact both lanes with the eastbound lane which takes motorists toward Downtown Kingston being closed first following which the westbound lane leading to Three Miles will be closed, each lane being affected for approximately 10 days.
The planned works will significantly improve drainage in the area as the steel grating, which will replace the existing steel plates, will allow more storm water to flow from the road into the drain. The new drainage design should also stand up better to the wear of vehicular traffic.
The location is one of six where drainage is being improved across the Corporate Area under a 10 million dollar programme. Works have so far been completed at Tom Redcam Drive and Waltham Park and Hagley Park Roads with improvements currently ongoing at West Kings House and Constant Spring Roads as well as several locations in Downtown Kingston.
