The National Works Agency (NWA) will on Monday, September 19, commence major road improvement works in the rural township of Chapelton, Clarendon. The works are being undertaken as part of the one point two billion dollar improvement work now underway along the road from Sour Sop Turn.

Starting on Monday, the NWA will begin the work to replace several meters of defective waterlines, as well as to widen the road through the community. Significant drainage improvement works are also slated to be done in the area.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that motorists using the road through Chapelton over the next six weeks may have delays, resulting from the improvement works. Road users are being urged to obey the posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons when using the road through the community.

Mr. Shaw says that the Sour Sop Turn to Chapelton road project which is jointly funded by the OPEC Fund for International Development and the Government of Jamaica is now 74% complete. The scope of the works include the widening of the 10 kilometres stretch for better line of site, improvement to drainage and upgrading of all protection works.

Mr. Shaw says that to date there has been substantial completion of all rock cuts, while asphalting works, inclusive of placement of base course has been completed on the first five kilometers.
