A section of Mona Road in St. Andrew has been reduced to single lane. The partial closure of the carriageway was effected on Tuesday, May 2, and is expected to last for two weeks. The affected section which is located between Wellington Drive and Wallen Close has been reduced to single lane in order to facilitate the installation of pipe culverts. Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw, says that this activity forms part of a road and drainage rehabilitation programme, along Mona Road. The works commenced in early April and are expected to last for six months. Mr. Shaw says that, under the project, drainage improvement activities, to include culvert installation and manhole construction, will be undertaken. In addition, there will be some pavement rehabilitation, augmented by the construction of sidewalks, kerbs and channels, road markings and a pedestrian crossing. The project is being implemented as part of the Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MIDP) at a cost of $76.4 million dollars. Mr. Shaw advised that during the construction phase of the project, some traffic delays and/or changes may be experienced. He is advising motorists and other road users, including residents of August Town and the Mona area to exercise caution in the construction zone and to obey the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs.
