The National Works Agency (NWA) has put its teams in the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary, Portland and St. Thomas on full alert, as another period of inclement weather starts to impact these parishes.

Heavy rain has since last night been impacting most of these parishes and some flooding has already been reported.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that flooding has been reported in Portland and St. Thomas. The Hopewell and Orange Bay communities in Portland today experienced some amount of flooding, while in St. Thomas sections of the main road between Morant Bay and Port Morant were impacted. The road through the community of Port Morant is now impassable, due to flooding.

Mr. Shaw says that the NWA has also put key partners on alert, in order to respond to situations that might arise resulting from the increased rainfall.

Road users are being reminded to exercise extreme caution while using some corridors in these North-eastern parishes, as there is the likelihood of flooding, landslides and fallen rocks, which could put them at risk.

Among the areas where persons are being advised to exercise caution is the road through the Junction, St. Mary, the Buff Bay and Rio Grande Valleys in Portland and the stretch from Bath to Hordley in St. Thomas.
