The National Works Agency will begin a multi-million dollar road repair programme in the parishes of St. Ann and St. Catherine on Tuesday March 6. Under the programme which is expected to be completed in six weeks, the Steer Town to Moneague roadway that is heavily used by trucks and the Fern Gully road in St. Ann will be repaired.

In St. Catherine, the detour route between Spanish Town and Moneague through Worthy Park, Thydixon and Camperdown will also be repaired.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency, Stephen Shaw says the road repairs will include patching along the truck route, milling of the Fern Gully main road and overlay with asphaltic concrete, cutting of overhang from trees and installation of safety structures such as guard rails.

Mr Shaw says that motorists will be allowed to use the roadways while work is in progress; however traffic flow will be regulated by flag persons and the police. He is advising motorist who use these roadways to proceed with caution and obey posted warning signs while work is in progress.

On completion, motorists and truckers in particular will experience improved driving conditions and reduced travel time.
