The National Works Agency (NWA) has signed a 39 million dollar contract for the supply of raw materials to facilitate the continuation of protective works along the Palisadoes Road in Kingston.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says through this agreement, just under 11,000 cubic meters of stones will be provided by contractor YP Seaton for the continuation of the rock revetment.

The Agency had done 120 meters of rock revetment work in July last year in one of the two areas along the Palisadoes Road, identified as most vulnerable to high tide.

Mr. Shaw says the material to be supplied will be used to construct another 900 meters of rock revetment along the corridor. This will be done along the open sea side of the road.

In the meantime, the NWA will be presenting the findings of the Environmental Impact Assessment Study of the area next Wednesday, March 12. The public presentation of the EIA is an important component in the approval process of the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA).

Mr. Shaw says the findings of the EIA will be presented to the public at a meeting to be held at the Donald Quarrie High School in Harbour View, starting at 6:00 pm.

Persons interested in reviewing the document can do so at the Tom Redcam Library in Kingston and NEPA in Kingston or on this site. (see marquee)
