The National Works Agency will be spending six million dollars to clean and repair one kilometer of the gully network between Stand Pipe, Barbican Road and Key Drive in Liguanea, St. Andrew.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Housing Transport Water and Works, Hon. Richard Azan says work on this project will begin tomorrow Wednesday February 7 and is expected to be completed within two weeks. Minister Azan says the works will include removal of debris, broken wall and invert slab sections, which will then be repaired.

Speaking during a tour of the community, Minister Azan says that the project is being undertaken in collaboration with the National Solid Waste Management Agency (NSWMA) who will be providing drums for the residents. He encouraged the residents to use the drums for garbage disposal and refrain from using the gully as a dump.

The gully cleaning and repair project is being undertaken as part of the Agency’s Special Flood Damage and Emergency Work Programme and is also part of efforts to stave off the possible threat of disease in the community.
