The National Works Agency (NWA) is currently undertaking critical works to reinstate or improve access to communities in the parishes of St. Thomas and St. Catherine. The NWA started works on a second box culvert in the Windsor Road community, Spanish Town last month while works have resumed to reconnect the main road between Seaforth and Cedar Valley in St. Thomas.

Manager, Communications and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, explains that an improved bridge structure is currently being constructed along the Duncan’s Pen Road to provide a safe, alternative access to the community of Windsor Road while similar works are underway to complete the Johnson River box culvert in Seaforth, St. Thomas.

He says outstanding works on the St. Thomas project include the construction of the western abutment, protective works and the paving of the approach roads. He says both the Johnson River and Duncan’s Road box culverts should be completed by October of this year.

To facilitate the works along the Duncan’s Pen Road, the roadway has been closed to vehicular traffic. Traffic has been rerouted along the nearby Windsor Road where works on the construction of a similar box culvert was recently completed. The completion of the Johnson River box culvert, in St. Thomas will see the reopening of the Church Corner to Morant River Bridge roadway at Seaforth after a decade of being closed to vehicular access. The projects which are being implemented under separate programmes of works are valued at a combined $41 million.
