The National Works Agency (NWA) has reopened the roadways in the parish of Portland that were yesterday rendered impassable, as a result of landslides and fallen trees, caused by heavy rains. The heavy rains had resulted in six road sections becoming impassable or reduced to single lane traffic.

The blocked roads were those from Buff Bay to Balcares, Wakefield to Hardwar Gap, Balcares to Wakefield, Durham Gap to Chips Hall and Alligator Church to Bellview. The roadway from Buff Bay to White Hall was only open to single lane access.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency, Stephen Shaw says three of the blocked roads were reopened on Tuesday afternoon, while the corridors from Durham Gap to Chips Hall and Wakefield to Hardwar Gap were reopened today.

Mr. Shaw says the NWA will continue to monitor the road sections, as some areas are highly susceptible to land slippage, especially when it rains.
