The National Works Agency has started a $15 million project to protect a section of the shoreline in Rocky Point, Clarendon. The project is being undertaken in the vicinity of the fishing village and is expected to reduce the incidence of flooding, which occur in the community during high tide, as a result of blocked drains caused by siltation.

Community Relations Officer for the National Works Agency’s Central Region, Howard Hendriks says the protective works include the construction of a "rock jetty" 40 metres from the shoreline to the sea. The structure will be 16 metres wide and is expected to break the motion of waves during high tide and prevent siltation of the channels by sand.

Mr. Hendriks says this project is being undertaken by the National Works Agency Force Account Team and contractors Gabion and Structures Limited who are supplying material. He says the project should be completed within eight (8) weeks.
