The National Works Agency is now in the final stages of its rehabilitation work on seven roadways in the western parishes of Westmoreland, Hanover and St. James. Among these roadways are the Orange Hill and Roaring River Parish Council roads in Westmoreland and the Bouge Hill and Sommerton Parish Council roads in St. James.

The repair works being undertaken includes cutting of overhang from trees, bushing, construction of drainage structures and surfacing of the roadways with Double Surface Dressing and Asphaltic Concrete.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency Stephen Shaw says the repairs are being carried out on approximately 25 kilometres of roads, costing just under $111 million.

He says the 11 kilometre long Orange Hill Parish Council road in Westmoreland is being rehabilitated in sections and the other roadways comprising 14 kilometres were completely rehabilitated. Mr Shaw says contracts for the repair of the roadways in Westmoreland were awarded to D.R. Foote Construction Company Limited and Sanjon Construction Company Limited while the contracts for works in St. James were awarded to Surrey Paving and Aggregates limited. Repair of the Blackgate to Great River main road in Hanover is being undertaken by the Agency’s Force Account Teams.

These repairs should be completed within another two weeks. The rehabilitated roadways will contribute to improved social and economic life in these communities.
