Temporary changes along Segment 2A of the North Coast Highway

Date Published:
26 Feb 2008

The National Works Agency will be implementing temporary changes along Segment 2A of the North Coast Highway between February 27, 2008 and March 9, 2008. This is being done in order to facilitate the laying of a second layer of asphalt (final wearing course) on the existing roadway.

These changes will be implemented in three phases:

Phase 1

February 27, 2008 – March 2, 2008

Traffic will be diverted from the northern lanes to the southern lanes in the vicinity of the Sangster’s International Airport round-a-bout and Flankers, St. James. As a result the dualised corridor which now accommodates four lanes of traffic will accommodate two lanes of traffic.

Phase 2

March 2 2008

The traffic flow will be modified in the vicinity of the Sangster’s International airport . Flag persons will help to direct motorists. (Please see map attached for further details).

Phase 3

March 8, 2008 – March 9 2008

Traffic will be diverted from the southern lanes to the northern lanes in the vicinity of the Sangster’s International Airport round-a-bout and Flankers, St. James. As a result the dualised corridor which now accommodates four lanes of traffic will accommodate two lanes of traffic.

The public is advised to proceed with caution and observe the instructions of the flagmen and posted warning signs.

Segment 2A of the Northern Coastal Highway Improvement Project involves the widening and realignment of the 27 km stretch between Greenside in Trelawny and Montego Bay in St. James, thirteen (13) of which are dualised. The roadway is being equipped with two underpasses, one each for the Half Moon and Rosehall Resorts, numerous accesses, bus bays, junctions and improved drainage structures.
