Temporary Closure of the Rockfort Turn-around

As of tomorrow, Thursday, November 15, 2007, the Turn-around and westbound turning lane along the Rockfort main road, in St. Andrew, will be closed to vehicular traffic. The roadway is being closed by the National Works Agency to facilitate repairs to the Turn-around facility located within the vicinity of the Caribbean Cement Company Limited. The closure is expected to last for four weeks.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says the temporary closure is necessary to allow the Cement Company to carry out works to strengthen the base of the roadway and repair the guard rails of the turn-around facility which cuts across the median. The Turn-around facilitates entrance onto the Cement Company’s complex.  Mr. Shaw says motorists traveling from the direction of the airport and wishing to turn onto the grounds of the Cement Company, will have to continue to the Rockfort/Windward Road intersection and make the turn at that point.

Mr. Shaw says the works are not expected to significantly affect the normal two-lane traffic on either side of the median, however he advises motorists to proceed with caution along the roadway.
