Works to restore Weymouth Drive traffic signals to commence tomorrow

The National Works Agency (NWA) will commence works on restoring the traffic signals at the Weymouth Drive intersection along Spanish Town Road tomorrow morning. The traffic signal cables at the location were damaged earlier this month as a result of excavation works carried out in the area by the National Water Commission.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says the works will involve excavation, damage assessment and the replacement of damaged underground signal and power cables. Mr. Shaw says preliminary assessment, conducted shortly after the lights were put out of service, revealed that cables located above ground in the vicinity of the signal cabinets were extensively damaged.

The repair works are to be completed within six days and will be restricted to areas off the roadway initially, after which the works will continue during the night time to minimize disruption to the flow of traffic.

The NWA continues to remind motorists that where traffic signals are out of operation, no one has the right of way at an intersection which should be treated as a four way stop. Motorists should therefore approach and proceed through the affected area with caution.
