Road Closure Notice for the Welcome to Cacoon Castle roadway in Hanover

Date Published:

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that a section of the Welcome to Cacoon Castle roadway, in Eastern Hanover, will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic. This closure will come into effect on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, and will remain in effect for 14 days. The roadway will be closed in the vicinity of the Quarry community.

The Welcome to Cacoon Castle roadway links the communities of Quarry, Blackgate, Haddington, New Milns and Cacoon Castle,  to the nearby town of Hopewell, Hanover. The corridor is also the main arterial link to the city of Montego Bay, St. James, for residents of these communities.

Community Relations Officer at the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, explains that the closure will only affect motorists traveling to areas beyond the Quarry community.  She explains that the roadway is being closed to facilitate the widening of a section of the corridor. This involves significant excavation of the embankment.

During the period of closure, motorists traveling from the direction of Hopewell,  towards Cacoon Castle may travel via Hopewell and Old Pen. The reverse applies for motorists traveling from the direction of Cacoon Castle, towards the town of Hopewell.

The works form part of a $127 million road rehabilitation project that involves significant drainage improvement, the reshaping and asphalting of sections of the roadway, and the construction of retaining and parapet walls.

Motorists are being reminded to obey the posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
