The Craigmill Bridge #2, located along the Buff Bay to White Hall main road, Portland has partially collapsed. The structure which was rendered unsafe and closed sometime in 2018 partially collapsed under the weight of a truck ladened with stones.
Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw says that the bridge was not to be used by motorists. A detour road was constructed in the vicinity of the bridge. Motorists had been encouraged to use this route.
Mr. Shaw says physical barriers had been erected at both entrances to the now collapsed structure, but the impediments were routinely removed.
Mr. Shaw says that the NWA intends to replace the bridge and that the process to having this done has been underway. The bridge is one of six that the NWA has on its priority list for replacement. The list includes the structure at Troy, Trelawny which is now under construction.
Mr. Shaw says the NWA intends to continuously maintain the detour road, which sometimes become impassable during flood rains. Persons are also being reminded not to attempt to use this section of road, where the river is flooded.
