The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting that heavy rains over the last 48 hours have affected some roadways in the northeastern parish of Portland, reducing these corridors to single lane access. The roadways, most of which are severely scoured, include the Schoolhouse Corner to Chepstowe, Tranquility to Bangor Ridge, Seaman’s Valley to Millbank and the Alligator Church to Bellevue control sections.

Community Relations Officer for the NWA, Natalee Bloomfield, says that there are also two breakaways in the Rio Grande Valley which have left the roadways accessible only to single-laned traffic. The roadways are the Seaman’s Valley to Millbank control section, in the vicinity of Comfort Castle and the Alligator Church to Bellevue roadway, in the Bellevue community.

She says that workmen have been deployed to clear a landslip in the vicinity of Friday, along the Seaman’s Valley to Millbank thoroughfare, and that there are reports of fallen trees also along that section. Blocked drains have also resulted in some inundation of the Port Antonio to Nonsuch roadway.

The National Works Agency is advising motorists who use these roadways to proceed with caution as rain continues in these areas and further damage may result.
