Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP) Phase Five Projects Underway

The Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP) Phase Five Component of the Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MIDP) is now underway.

Hon. Richard Azan, State Minister for Works at the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing (MTWH) says the Phase Five programme of works began on June 29, 2015 and is scheduled for completion in five months, by November 30, 2015. Minister Azan says that this new phase of JEEP is progressing well and as at July 31, 2015 sixty six (66) contracts have been issued for projects in sixty two (62) of the sixty three (63) constituencies.

Minister Azan says the programme of works under JEEP Five include road rehabilitation, pot-hole patching, repairs to walls, gratings, sidewalks, drains, bridges and retaining wall construction.

He says an amount of $930 million has been allocated for works across the 63 constituencies during the 2015/2016 financial year. An additional amount of $78.2 million will be spent on the rehabilitation of parish council roads islandwide.

Projects underway in St. James, according to Minister Azan are 20% complete, while those in Westmoreland are overall 55% complete. In St. Catherine four road projects are complete and two projects are at 70% completion. In Clarendon work on projects commenced recently and are at various stages of completion.

The Minister says that contracts issued to sub-contractors for projects in St. Thomas, St. Elizabeth, Trelawny, Hanover and Manchester is scheduled to get underway shortly.
