The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising the motoring public that traffic heading towards Rockhall from Red Hills along the Turnbridge to Santa Maria main road has been redirected onto Coopers Hill Main Road. This is to facilitate the retrieval of a ten-wheeler truck which overturned along an embankment close to Woodland Heights earlier today.
NWA Communication and Customer Services Manager, Stephen Shaw says the road closure was effected a short while ago (5:00 p.m.) as a matter of emergency. He explains that heavy equipment is currently in operation at the site to retrieve the truck and to prevent it from rolling over. He estimates that the exercise should be complete in another two to three hours.
Motorists travelling from the foot of Red Hills toward Rock Hall or further north are being asked to turn left on to the Coopers Hill Road, just before reaching Woodland Heights and return to the main thoroughfare at Twelve Miles. The reverse obtains for persons travelling towards Kingston from Rock Hall.
The local police is currently on location assisting with directing motorists during the period the roadway will remain closed. Motorists are expected to obey the posted road closure and other safety signs as well as the instructions of the Police.
