The National Works Agency (NWA) is now in the final stages of completion of a $5 million dollar contract aimed at mitigating flooding at the Mustard Seed Blessed Assurance Children’s home located in Windsor Lodge St. James.

The Blessed Assurance Children’s Home which is located along a section of the Barnett to Adelphi main road, is an initiative of the Mustard Seed Christian Ministry. The Home provides housing and education to children with mental and physical disabilities.

Flooding has been a serious cause of concern at this location which serves some 33 residents.

Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says that as a result of the flooding concerns the NWA, through the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP), in February commenced a major effort to increase the carrying capacity of the drain which runs adjacent to the home.

Ms. Ricketts says the project involves cleaning and realigning of the channel to allow for a better flow. Additionally retaining walls have been constructed along sections of the channel.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
