A $19 million road rehabilitation project is now in effect along a section of the Duncans to Long Pond roadway in Trelawny. The project is being executed by the National Works Agency (NWA), under its Maintenance of Secondary Roads Programme.
Community Relations Officer at the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says that the project, which is now in the preliminary stage, targets some 450 metres of roadway. This repair effort will target the stretch of roadway between the Daniel Town Road intersection and the entrance to the former Long Pond Sugar Factory.
Ms. Ricketts says that the project involves drain cleaning, the construction of additional drainage features and the reshaping and asphalting of the targeted section of the roadway. Additionally, in a bid to mitigate flooding in the Long Pond area, a section of the corridor will be raised.
This road project is one of two projects to be undertaken in the area by the NWA. The Agency will, within the next seven days, commence the patching and local rehabilitation of the Spicy Hill to Long Pond section of the roadway. The project is being undertaken under the Relief Emergency Assistance and Community Help (REACH) road rehabilitation Programme, which seeks to upgrade roadways that have been damaged following the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
Several other roadways in the Parish will also be targeted for repair under the REACH Programme. These include sections of the Bounty Hall corridor; the stretch of roadway from Rock to Stewart Town; and the Jackson Town to Ulster Spring main road.
Motorists are being advised to obey the posted warning signs and instructions of flag-persons.
