New Multi-million Dollar Hot Mix Patching Programme for the South Eastern Region

A new multi-million dollar Hot Mix patching is being carried out along forty eight (48) corridors in south eastern parishes of Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine and St. Thomas.  Patching will begin on Monday, January 19, 2015 and is expected to be completed within eight weeks.

In Kingston, twenty nine (29) corridors will be addressed. Approximately 4,020 square metres of patching is being undertaken. Among the roadways being addressed are August Town Road, Cassava Piece Road, Duhaney Drive, East Queen Street, Eastwood Park Road, Harbour Drive, Holborn Road, Mahoe Drive, West Avenue/Dukaran Avenue and Seaward Drive.

Ten (10) corridors in St. Catherine have been selected for patching. The corridors include Municipal Boulevard/ Braeton Park Way/Lakes Pen, Natural Bridge to Troja and Spanish Town to Bamboo. Approximately 650 square metres of patching will be carried out along the ten corridors.

Patching will be carried out along three road sections in St. Andrew. The road sections are Stony Hill to Parks Road, Santa Maria to Turnbridge (Red Hills) and the Harbour View to Bull Bay main road. Six hundred and fifty (650) square metres of patching will be carried out along these road sections.

In St. Thomas, patching will be carried out along the Bull Bay to Grants Pen, Grants Pen to Pamphret, Morant River Bridge to Trinityville, Pamphret to Morant Bay and Port Morant to Pleasant Hill corridors. Approximately seven hundred and seventy (770) square metres of patching is to be carried out.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw says the forty eight (48) selected corridors are heavily used and that and motorists should expect minor delays. He is advising motorists to use alternative routes of their choice in order to avoid locations where patching is in progress.

The programme is expected to cost just under $22 million.

Motorists are advised to obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons while works are in progress.
