The National Works Agency (NWA) is set to implement another phase of road repair works under the Relief Emergency Assistance and Community Help (REACH) programme. This tranche which will, at first, be implemented in five parishes is scheduled to be rolled out by this weekend.
Manager of Communication and Customer Services of the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says that this phase will target mainly parochial roads in Kingston, St. Andrew, St. James, Clarendon and Manchester. He says approximately $150 million will be spent to do pavement repairs on just over seventy (70) roadways across the five parishes.
Mr. Shaw stated that the works will be extended to other parishes in coming weeks and that the final selection of roadways to be targeted, under this phase, is being finalised. He says the REACH Road Repairs programme is a $3-billion-dollar investment that the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) has made towards the rehabilitation of the island’s roadways. The programme, which is being implemented in phases, commenced in August with current phases scheduled to be completed by the end of November.
