The National Works Agency (NWA) has reopened roadways in Portland, St. Thomas, St. Catherine and St. Mary that were blocked or reduced to single lane access during heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Isaac which affected these parishes over the weekend.
In eastern Portland the roadway between Folly and Fair Prospect at Blue Hole remains open to single lane. The section of road at See-me-no-more outside the communities of Kensington and Ross Craig, blocked by a fallen tree has been cleared. While in western Portland there are still landslips along the Balcarres to Wakesfield main road and single lane access in sections.
The blockages located along the Windsor Forest to Mahogany Vale main road in St. Thomas, one at Grove and the other in the community of Windsor Forest have been cleared. Flood waters at the Ford located at Bethel Gap/White Ford have receded. Personnel and equipment have been deployed to clear blockages along the Trinityville to Cedar Valley main road and it is expected that these blockages will be cleared by the end of today.
In St. Mary, a landslip at Friendship Gap along the Junction Road has been cleared. Another located at Lunarfield Road in the parish will be cleared today.
While in St. Catherine, The Williamsfield to Glengoffe main road that was blocked in the vicinity of Mount Industry as well as the Zion Hill Bridge to Free Town main road blocked at Bamboo corner, have been cleared. The Golden River Parish Council Road, Above Rocks, was blocked at three locations. NWA personnel deployed along this roadway have cleared two of the blockages and are now clearing the third.
The National Works Agency is advising motorists who use these roadways to proceed with care as the roads are covered with silt and debris in sections. They are urged to obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
