The National Works Agency (NWA) is now on an island-wide drive to improve the safety of motorists and pedestrians who use several busy corridors across the country. Under this latest effort, the Agency is installing and replacing Raised Pavement Markers, also called “Cat Eyes”; installing traffic delineators or “candle sticks”; as well as installing Rumble Strips, which are used to raise the awareness of motorist in sensitive areas.

Among the areas where works have been completed are the stretch from Papine to Half Way Tree in St. Andrew; Black River, St. Elizabeth and sections of the road from Pillars to Montego Bay in St. James, where Rumble Strips have been installed.

Other areas that have benefitted under the programme include the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Molynes Road, where Raised Pavement Markers have been replaced; the rehabilitated section of Lady Musgrave Road, which was remarked and the stretch from Negril to Lucea, Hanover, where the traffic lanes were also remarked.

The NWA intends to complete this phase of works by the end of March, when it is expected that Old Hope Road, between Cross Roads and Matilda’s Corner and the main road from Spalding to Cave Valley in St. Ann will both benefit from improved markings and the replacing of Raised Pavement Markers.

The Road Maintenance Fund (RMF) has provided financial support to undertake these works and the partnership will continue into the new financial year to undertake works along other corridors.
