The National Works Agency (NWA) is announcing that effective today, Thursday March 16 ,2022, the section of Kent Avenue, that provides access to the Jamaica Defence Force’s (JDF) Barracks in Flankers St. James, will be permanently closed.

Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says that the roadway is being closed to facilitate the expansion of the runway at Sangster International Airport. The road will now operate as a Cul-de-sac with access from the Flanker main road.

Ms. Ricketts says that access to the JDF Barracks and other facilities along the soon to be closed stretch of roadway will be aided by traffic signals, which are being adjusted to facilitate ease of movement. In the interim, no right turning movements will be allowed at this intersection.

Persons, including JDF personnel will therefore be required to make left in and left out manoeuvres to access the North-coast Highway. Motorists will also be allowed to drive from the direction of the old Flanker main road towards to the JDF. The reverse will also be allowed.

In the meantime, sections of Kent Avenue, remain an active work site. Road users are reminded to obey the posted warning signs and Instructions of flag persons.
