The movement of traffic along a section of Junction Road in St. Mary will be restricted to single lane access over the course of the next six (6) weeks. The restriction is to facilitate the construction of a retaining wall in the vicinity of Tapioca, near the Chicken Shop. The work, valued at $5.2 million, commenced today, August 27, and is expected to be completed by mid-October.

National Works Agency’s (NWA) Communication Manager, Stephen Shaw explains that an existing parapet wall was damaged and resulted in the eventual failure of a section of the roadway. He says that as part of the project, there will be general excavation for the foundation of the wall, the construction of a rubble masonry retaining wall with parapet, and the restoration and paving of the roadway.

Mr. Shaw stated that there is currently no need for a detour, however motorists should continue to exercise caution while using the roadway and obey the instructions of flag persons or posted signs.
