Commencing Saturday June 8, the intersections of Benson Avenue and Shortwood Road, and Shortwood Road and Russel Heights, in Kingston, will be closed for repairs. The intersections will be closed to vehicular traffic starting 8:00 a.m. on Saturday (June 8) until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday June 9. Single lane traffic will be in effect, at the locations, from Monday June 10, for six (6) weeks, until Monday July 22.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw says the repairs, valued at $19.2 million, will include 156 cubic metres of rigid concrete pavement. The works, he says, will also see existing concrete kerbs being demolished, pothole patching with asphaltic concrete, construction of sidewalks and installation of kerb and channel. The project is scheduled to last for three (3) months.

During the period of closure, motorists travelling to Norbrook via Shortwood Road will have to travel on Olivier Road and turn onto Norbrook Road. Motorists travelling to Cherry Gardens and Russel Heights via Shortwood Road will turn right onto Cherry Garden Drive, then left onto Mark Way or Melwood Avenue and continue to Russel Heights.

Mr Shaw says motorists travelling to and from Shortwood Drive or Benson Avenue, and roads leading off these corridors, will be given access.

Motorists should not attempt to use the area during the period of the closure and are advised to observe the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs.
