Hon. Richard Azan, State Minister for Works at the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing (MTWH) says the National Works Agency (NWA) has embarked on Phase one of its 2015/2016 $67 million Islandwide Spray Patching Programme.
Minister Azan says the programme commenced on Monday, July 27, 2015 and patching is now underway along forty three (43) major corridors in Kingston and four corridors in St. Andrew.
He says that among the roadways to be patched in Kingston are Windward Road, Cassava Piece Road/ Clifton Boulevard, Woodglen Drive, Fairway Avenue, Ripon Road, Jacks Hill Road, Merrion Road and Lower Elletson Road.
In St. Andrew four corridors are slated for patching. These are Papine to Bull Bay, Gordon Town, Constant Spring to Stony Hill and Guava Gap to Havendale.
According to the State Minister, preparatory works are now taking place in St. Mary. These include the marking of areas and the removal of damaged material. Tacking to improve adhesion between the old pavement and the patching mixture will also be carried out and the necessary traffic control measures will be employed while patching is in progress.
He says that that these projects are being undertaken by the National Works Agency’s Force Account Teams. They will carry out 48,000M2 of patching islandwide and it is expected that these projects will be completed within three months, by October 2015. The programme is being funded by the Road Maintenance Fund.
Motorists who travel along corridors where patching is underway are advised to obey posted warning signs and the instruction of flag persons.
