The National Works Agency (NWA) is appealing for help from members of public to assist in reducing widespread theft and vandalism of road signs.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the Agency has installed over four hundred (400) roads signs along roadways across the island between April and June of this year. Many of these recently installed signs have been vandalized or stolen.

Mr. Shaw says that signs are important to all persons using the islands roadways and that the cost of replacing them was considerable.

The road signs regulate the movement of traffic, warn of hazards along roadways, restrict movement and inform motorists about the mileage and the directions to a destination.

Mr. Shaw says their removal makes the roadways unsafe for use by motorists and pedestrians, including local and overseas visitors.

Mr. Shaw is encouraging the public to continue their vigilance and report individuals that are observed engaging in these practices to the police or the NWA.
