NWA introducing Traffic Changes in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth

Effective Monday December 15, 2014 the National Works Agency will be making changes to traffic arrangements in the town of Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth.

These changes are being implemented in order to better regulate the expected increase in traffic flows through the town over the holiday period. The one way system will be in operation between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays, until January 5, 2015.

On Sundays it will revert to dual usage.

Community Relations Officer for NWA’s Central Region, Howard Hendriks, says that as a result of these changes, the following will obtain. Main Street from its intersection with Institution Drive and Coke Drive will accommodate motorists heading in a westerly direction (from Goshen). No right turn will therefore be allowed from Coke Drive onto Main Street. All vehicles heading from this direction into the town will only be allowed a left turning movement.

Motorists wishing to enter Santa Cruz or beyond, from the direction of Lacovia will have to make a left at the traffic signals at the intersection of Main Street and the Bypass. No right turning movement will be allowed onto Market Street from the Bypass. Motorists wishing to enter the business district from this direction will have to use Institution Drive, where a right turn will be allowed.

Motorists who wish to travel to the direction of Malvern are being advised to use Retirement Road or travel to the end of the Bypass, turn right at the Total Gas Station and then turn left onto Centre Road.

Mr. Hendriks says this new one-way system and restrictions are part of the NWA’s Traffic Management thrust to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow in the town of Santa Cruz during the Christmas and New Year period.
