Phase Four of the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP) is now underway in the northeastern parishes of Portland, St. Mary and St. Ann. The programme which began on November 25, 2014, is a part of the government’s multimillion dollar Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MIDP).

Community Relations Officer at the National Works Agency (NWA), Natalee Bloomfield, says that under the programme, thirty six (36) projects will be undertaken across the three parishes. She says that the works will include maintenance activities, in the form of patching and the resurfacing of some roadways with Asphaltic Concrete and Double Surface Dress (DSD).  There will, also, be the construction of Random Rubble (RR) and gabion retaining walls, as well as the cleaning and construction of drains and the trimming of road verges.

Areas that will benefit under the programme include Pacco Lane in Highgate, Arcadia Housing Scheme and the community of Rosemount in St. Mary. In Portland, the main road from Tranquility to Bangor Ridge, Vinery Road and selected roads in the Fairy Hill Housing Scheme will get attention, while in St. Ann the corridor from Lime Hall to Laycock Street, the Farm Town road and East Corner will be rehabilitated.

The projects are being undertaken at a combined cost of just under ninety (90) million dollars and are expected to be completed within three months.
