A $45.5 million programme of drain cleaning and bushing along roadways in the Kingston Metropolitan Region (KMR) has been underway since mid-November.

Stephen Shaw, Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA) says we are at the end of the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season and to date we have been spared the experience of a Hurricane or Tropical Storm. Mr. Shaw says that despite this, periodic rain events have necessitated the need for continued drain cleaning and bushing along roadways.

He further states that during the next two weeks the Agency will carry out the programme and undertake other mitigation measures in the Kingston Metropolitan Region of Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine and St. Thomas. Mr. Shaw says that the most critical drains and roadways will be identified for implementation of this project in the South East Region.

All activities are scheduled to be completed by December 05, 2014.
