Commissioning into service of Caymanas Traffic Signals, St. Catherine

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists and pedestrians that effective 10:00 a.m. this Thursday, September 26, 2013, newly installed Traffic Signals, located at the intersection of Caymanas Estate Road and Mandela Highway, St. Catherine will be operational.

This section of the corridor has been prone to accidents, a situation which has been further exacerbated by new developments in the area. The Urban Development Corporation and its partners are developing the Caymanas Estates. The developments are to include housing solutions, sports complex, a recreational park and an industrial complex.

The new Traffic Signals will improve safety and control at the intersection. Motorists will be able to turn left and right safely, under protective movement.

The newly installed pedestrian crossing at the intersection will also allow for the safe passage of pedestrians.

This is a temporary measure which will be in place until the Caymanas developers implement a permanent solution to access the Caymanas community.

The NWA is reminding motorists that they must wait for the green light before they drive through the intersection and that these new signals will control the sequence of movements and green-time allowed for turning at the intersection.
