The National Works Agency (NWA) has commenced a multi-million dollar road rehabilitation project along the Ferris Cross to Belmont roadway in Westmoreland. This comes on the heels of the signing of an approximately $497 million dollar contract to upgrade the heavily used thoroughfare.
The project involves the rehabilitation of the 8.4 km stretch to include milling, regulating, resurfacing and completely reconstructing some sections of the roadway. Additionally, significant drainage improvment will be undertaken along the corridor. This will involve the construction of U drains, box culverts and kerb and channels.
Local contractor, Asphlatic Concrete Entereprises , is the contracting firm charged with the responsibility of executing the necessary improvement work which is being supervised by the NWA.
The project will augment rehabilition work which is curently underway along the adjoining Scotts Cove to Belmont roadway. The entire corridor between Ferris Cross and Scotts Cove is being upgraded as part of plans to bolster the expanding tourism sector along the island’s South Coast. Addditionally, once the project is completed, benefits will also accrue to farmers, residents and other stakeholders in the communities along this roadway.
Consequent on the these works, the NWA advises that motorists and other road users who traverse this corridor may experience some delays. Motorists are being advised to obey the related warning signs and the instruction of flag persons while the much needed upgrade of the corridor is in progress.
