Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport and Works, Richard Azan has called a meeting with key stakeholders regarding road safety issues that have been raised in light of last weekend’ fatal accident along the North-coast Highway.
The meeting, which will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015 is to be attended by high ranking members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the National Works Agency (NWA), the Ministry of Transport and Works and Housing and the National Road Safety Council.
Minister Azan says that in light of the many theories that have been proffered as to the cause of the accident that claimed four lives, it is important that all the relevant facts are put together so that all Jamaica can be better informed.
He says the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing intends to use the meeting to agree on some approaches to be undertaken not just along the affected section of road, but across the island.
Minister Azan says that improper driving habits continue to be a leading cause of accidents and that the Ministry as part of its thrust to reduce fatalities on the roads will be ramping up its public education efforts.
