The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that a section of the Morant Bay to Port Morant main road in St. Thomas has been reduced single lane traffic. The affected section is in the vicinity of the Princess Margaret Hospital.
Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the road has been undermined and has been caused by wave action from the sea.
He says that the affected section of road has been cordoned off and that motorist should exercise extreme caution in traversing the roadway, especially when it is raining.
Mr. Shaw says the NWA is taking steps to undertake emergency measures but that the possibility exists for further erosion to take place.
In the meantime, Mr. Shaw says that caution is also being urged in using a section of the Georgia main road in St. Mary. The area which is located near the Westmoreland Bridge is showing signs of instability and can get worse during heavy rainfall.
