The National Works Agency (NWA) categorically refutes any allegation of impropriety associated with works allegedly done along the Summerfield to Thompson Town roadway. The facts are that these works are scheduled to begin Friday, December 11, 2015.
The project involves localized rehabilitation, bushing, drain cleaning, scarifying, base works, sheet patching and patching along sections of the 13.8 kilometres long roadway.
The NWA admits that a report tabled at the infrastructure Committee of Parliament, on November 17, 2015, which is chaired by MP Pearnel Charles contained an error. The report provided an update of over 200 projects, including Summerfield to Thompson Town, which erroneously gave the status as 100% complete instead of 0%. This clerical error referred to the Spray Patching project that was completed earlier along the same roadway.
The Agency is disturbed that a simple clerical error in the report could be elevated to the level of ‘corruption” and “skull doggery” with calls for the Contractor General to investigate. Since the tabling of the report on November 17 and yesterday, this could have been easily clarified with a simple phone call.
Notwithstanding, the Agency will continue to carry out its mandate of building, Safe, Reliable and Quality roads in strict adherence to the Government of Jamaica policy and procurement guidelines.
