A major hotmix patching programme that commenced in early April continues across the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew. The programme which is valued at over $85 million dollars targets ninety-four roadways in the two parishes.
Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw, says that over seventeen thousand three hundred and ninety square metres of roadway, has already been patched. This, along 54 roadways and represents approximately 60% of the total amount targeted.
Mr. Shaw further stated that the programme which was originally scheduled to last for two months experienced delays as a result of periodic rainfall over the past few weeks. This resulted in the rescheduling of the works which has affected the progress of the programme. The programme is now expected to be completed by early July.
Some roadways that have already benefitted under the programme include Gordon Town Road, Mandela Highway, Harbour View to Bull Bay, Molynes Road and Old Hope Road in the vicinity of Papine Square. Other roadways that are scheduled to be patched include Duke Street, Eastwood Park Road, Garden Boulevard, Hope Road, Lyndhurst Road, Oxford Road, Red Hills Road, Trafalgar Road and Windward Road
Motorists are being advised to exercise caution in the work zones and to obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
