The National Works Agency (NWA) and the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) are now in the final stages of completion of a $279 million dollar road rehabilitation project along the Negril to Sheffield main road in Westmoreland.

The project which got underway in February 2015, involves the rehabilitation of the 5.6 km stretch of roadway between the Negril roundabout and the Sheffield and Springfield intersections. This involves significant drainage improvement, especially at three critical areas which were prone to flooding. Additionally, the project entails the creation of soft shoulders on both sides of the carriageway and the construction of sidewalks.

Community Relations Officer of the NWA’s Western, Janel Ricketts, says that the project is now substantially complete. The completed works include paving and the most significant drainage components of the project. She adds that the contractor, Surrey Paving and Aggregates Limited, is now focusing their efforts on completing the remaining drainage features, sidewalks and the marking of the roadway.

Ms. Ricketts says that these activities are expected to be completed by the end of the month.
