Come Tuesday, October 18, traffic is expected to flow much better along Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston. This as the temporary drainage feature which was constructed across the road in the vicinity of the Tivoli Gully has been removed.
Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the temporary drainage feature that was constructed earlier this month in preparation for Hurricane Matthew was removed on Saturday. The drainage feature which is referred to as a Swale was constructed in the vicinity of Industrial Terrace and was expected to channel excess water away from business establishments, had the Tivoli Gully overflowed its banks.
Mr. Shaw says that the work to widen the Tivoli Gully has been substantially completed and that the support structure for the concrete has now been removed.
Mr. Shaw says that over the next few weeks motorists should expect significant improvements in travelling along Marcus Garvey Drive, as the last two stages of the work gets underway. The stabilised concrete base and the Asphaltic Concrete binder course will be laid on the westbound side of the carriageway over the next few weeks.
Once the activities are completed on the westbound lane, similar works will be done on the Eastbound carriageway.
