Teams from the National Works Agency (NWA) are now working in the parish of St. Mary to reopen four main roads that have been rendered impassable due to heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours. The blocked roads are:

Border to Cuffy Gully,

Lewisberg to Freetown,

Richmond to Kendal and

Camberwell to Georges Hope.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that there are also roads in the parish that have been reduced to single lane traffic. Those reduces to single lane are the Toms River to Agualtavale (Junction road), Scotts Hall to Mount Rose and the stretch from Richmond to Clonmel.

Mr. Shaw says that work is underway to reopen all the blocked roads before the end of today, however, this is subject to the weather being favourable. Challenges have been experienced along the Camberwell to Georges Hope corridor, which is on a hilly terrain.

In the meantime, roads in the Glengoffe area of St. Catherine that were also being impacted by landslides have been reopened.
