The National Works Agency is advising motorists to exercise extreme caution in using the Broadgate main road in St. Mary. This warning has come against the background of serious earth movements along a section of the embankment that forms the road. The road is part of what is referred to as the Junction Road, which links Kinston to the North-coast.
Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the earth movements have caused a section of the road, near the Westmoreland Bridge to partially collapse.
He says the area is prone to earth movements and that signs that were placed at the location have been stolen. Mr. Shaw says that the NWA will be replacing the signs and urging members of the public to assist in ensuring that they remain in place.
In the meantime, NWA teams are now carrying-out clearing and cleaning exercises in areas of rural St. Andrew, which were impacted by landslides over the weekend.
Mr. Shaw says that the roads from Halls Delight to Westphalia, Guava Ridge to Silver Hill Gap and Papine to Redlight District are now getting attention. The corridors had been reopened, after being blocked by landslides and boulders, but required further work to have them fully accessible by motor vehicles.
