The National Works Agency is currently undertaking a road marking programme along several roadways across the island. The programme which is valued at over $35 million dollars targets twenty-one roadways in the Kingston Metropolitan Region (KMR), St. Catherine, St. Ann and Manchester.
Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw, says that the effort is part of the NWA’s thrust to improve safety and efficiency along the main roads. He says the programme commenced in late September and will see approximately 105 kilometres of line marking. This is to be followed by the installation of approximately 13,213 Raised Pavement Markers (Cats Eyes) along the road sections.
Mr. Shaw further stated that line markings have already been completed along sixteen road sections, and this segment of the programme should be completed within the next two weeks.
Roadways in the Kingston Metropolitan Region that have already benefitted under the programme include Half Way Tree Road, Rousseau and Retirement Roads; Constant Spring Road, between Hagley Park Road and Dunrobin Avenue; Maxfield Avenue and Lyndhurst Road. Markings have also been completed along Dunbeholden Road, Germaine Road to the Bridgeport Round-a-bout, West Henderson and South East 4th Street in St. Catherine. In Manchester, the stretches from the Williamsfield Round-a-bout to the New Green Round-a-bout and the Williamsfield Round-a-bout to Shooters Hill have been re-marked. The corridor from Runaway Bay to Discovery Bay in St. Ann has also received attention.
Line marking is currently underway at Widcombe Road in St. Andrew and along Municipal Boulevard in St. Catherine. Other roads that will benefit under the programme are Twickenham Park to Burke Road and Brunswick Road in Spanish Town.
Motorists are being advised to exercise caution in the work zones and to heed posted warning signs.
