LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (Level 4) – St. James

The National Works Agency, an Executive Agency of the 
Government of Jamaica is seeking suitably qualified individuals 
for the under-mentioned position.
LABORATORY TECHNICIAN 
(Level 4) – St. James 
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
•   Passes in Five (5) subjects at Ordinary level/CSEC level including 
   English Language, Mathematics, Information Technology and 
   preferably other technical subjects (Physics, Chemistry or Geography) 
•   Certification in soil/material testing or equivalent. 
•   Specialized training in laboratory testing techniques.
•   A minimum of one year experience in soil and material testing
•   Competence in computer applications
•   Good decision making and problem solving skills
•   Good oral and written communication skills
•   Excellent Human Relations Skills
CORE FUNCTIONS:
•   Perform tests on soil and other engineering material using required 
   standard test methods and submit test report sheets to Supervisor 
    immediately upon completion of tests.
•   Ensure that all testing equipment assigned are calibrated if required 
    and in good working condition and reporting defective equipment
•   Ensure that all files related to jobs in progress are up-to-date.
•   Ensure that all samples received are clearly labeled and easily 
    identified throughout the testing process
•   Prepare graphs and sketches in relation to various tests performed 
    both  in the field and laboratory. 
•   Sample and test soil and material for use in concrete asphalt 
    and other engineer works.
•   Carry out various tests on roads under construction.
•   Perform sampling and testing according to required test standards.
•   Record results as obtained and report non-conformances to 
    supervisor
•   Maintain general cleanliness of the lab including storage and disposal 
    of samples.
•   Ensure that safety and operating procedures are adhered to.
