Several corridors to be targeted for patching this weekend

The National Works Agency (NWA) through contractors will this weekend ramp up its activities to have roads in the Clarendon, St. Catherine and St. Andrew addressed through the government’s $2- billion patching programme, targeting main roads.

The roads to be targeted this weekend in Clarendon are May Pen to Hayes, Freetown to Alley, Pennants to Frankfield, Danks to Crofts Hill, Spalding to Cave Valley, May Pen to Sour Sop Turn, May Pen to Porus via Manchester Avenue and Four Paths and the James Hill Road.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the corridors in St. Andrew that will be targeted include, Molynes Road, Mountain View Avenue, East Kings House Road, Micheal Manley Boulevard, Mannings Hill Road and Spanish Town Road.

He says that roads in Portmore, St. Catherine are also be targeted this weekend. The works are to be done by contractors Buildrite Construction, who will be in Clarendon; J and L Construction that will  working along Spanish Town Road, East Kings House Road, Micheal Manley Boulevard and Mountain View Avenue; Asphaltic Concrete Enterprise Limited that will be on Mannings Hill Road and Molynes Road as well as Constructions Solutions Limited that will be working alongside Buildrite Construction on roads in Portmore, St. Catherine.

In the meantime, work is to begin tonight (Friday, January 10, 2025) along sections of Barbican Road, St. Andrew. Some sections of this corridor have shown signs of defects and are to be corrected through the construction contract with China Harbour Engineering (CHEC).

Mr. Shaw explains that the works which involve the removal of the defective layer of asphalt and the replacement of the same, is to be done at no cost to the government, as it is covered under the original contract. The contract for the widening of the road under the Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MIDP), included a defects liability clause, under which the works are to be done over the next two weeks.

Motorists are being advised to exercise caution in the vicinity of all these activities and to obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag-persons.
