Starting tomorrow, February 19, 2025, a section of the roadway from Rio Nuevo to Lambkin Hill in St. Mary will be closed to vehicular traffic. The closure which will be in the vicinity of “Bruk-Weh” will commence at 10 a.m. and is to facilitate the repair of a section of the roadway that has failed. The roadway will be partially re-opened to vehicular traffic by end of work day on Friday, February 21.
Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency, Stephen Shaw, says that the section of roadway failed, some time ago, due to earth movement over time. He says the repairs will see the removal of the damaged section of roadway which will then be repaired with approved material.
During the period of closure, motorists will not be able to use that section of roadway and are being asked to use the Gayle to Frankfurt roadway, via Three Hill to Prospect. Patching works will be completed today, February 18, on the Frankfurt roadway to facilitate the detour. The repairs are being done as part of the Relief Emergency Assistance and Community Help (REACH) Road Repair Programme.
The NWA is urging all road users to exercise caution when travelling within the construction zone and to obey the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs.
