Expect delays in the Fern Gully

Motorists using the Fern Gully main road in St. Ann are being advised to expect delays in using the corridor over the next two months. The delays will come as efforts have been intensified to complete phase three of the rehabilitative work, being implemented as part of the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP).

Phase three of the Fern Gully rehabilitation project involves the construction of a 1.4 kilometers long concrete “U” drain and the erection of five box culverts, between Harrison Town and Milford Road.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that arising from the intensification of the works and the possible delays in using the Fern Gully main road, motorists should make allocations for increased travel times or use alternative routes getting into or out of Ocho Rios.

Operators of large buses wishing to travel to or from the town of Ocho Rios from the direction of Moneague can use the alternative route through Chalky Hill. Drivers of small vehicles, such as cars and SUVs can use the Breadnut Hill parochial road.

Mr. Shaw says the works being undertaken in the Fern Gully will complement the 1.6 kilometer concrete pavement that has been significantly completed and is expected to mitigate flooding in the town of Ocho Rios.

The concrete pavement was done as phase two of the overall project, which is being done at a cost of over 500 million dollars.
