The National Works Agency (NWA) through the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme is now rehabilitating the Friendship to Wilmington (Stewart Mountain) main road in eastern St. Thomas.

Work on this 5.7 kilometre long roadway began in March 2011 and is scheduled to be completed within twelve (12) months. Manager of Communications and Customer Services at the National Works Agency Stephen Shaw says that works on this project include earthworks, construction of drainage and retaining structures and paving of the roadway with Double Surface Dress (DSD).

Mr. Shaw says that to date the site has been cleared, base material laid along sections of the roadway, while other sections have been oiled, sanded and is now ready for the first layer of paving. He says that over 200 metres of excavation has been carried out to construct a “V” drain.

An additional 500 metres of roadway has been added to the project to repair and improve the condition of the roadway between the community of Wilmington and the Wilmington Primary School

Mr. Shaw says that overall this project is approximately 35% complete and should cost just under $47 million.
